Mirpur Royals beat Kotli Lions in a super over contest


MUZAFFARABAD: Shoaib Malik struck a boundary off the very first ball in the super over to beat Kotli Lions in the 11th match of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL). 

Set to chase just two runs in six balls, Malik and Khushdil Shah came out to continue their form. Malik struck a four and wrapped up maiden victory for his team.

Lions’ Asif Ali and Ahsan Ali got run-out in super over as they managed to get just two runs.

Earlier, Ahsan smashed 99 runs off 47 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and six maximums to set the tone for his team to chase 212 runs. Lions fell just a run short to the target followed by a maiden super over the contest in the league.

Hasan Raza made 34 runs in the team’s unsuccessful run-chase whereas Saif Badar made 22 off 10 balls laced with three boundaries and a six.

Salman Irshad stood out as a performer for the Royals with the ball as he took three wickets for 39 runs in four overs. Amad Butt bagged two wickets.

While batting first, Royals put up a handsome total of 211-6 on the scoreboard. Shah fire powered 41 off 13 balls laced with three boundaries and four sixes.

From the top order, Mukhtar Ahmed smashed 61 off 38 balls including three sixes and six boundaries whereas Mohammad Akhlaq contributed 28 off 19 balls with the help of a six and a boundary.

Malik made 28 off 19 spread over a boundary and a six.

For Lions, Mujtaba Ghayyas took two wickets.

In the first match on Day 6, Rawalakot Hawks beat Bagh Stallions by five wickets. Kashif Ali made mathc-winning 54 runs with the help of five boundaries and a six whereas Sahibzada Farhan made 28.

Mohammad Ilyas and Umaid Asif bagged two wickets each for Stallions.

Earlier, Amir Yamin’s 69 off 34 balls laced with 10 boundaries and three sixes led Stallions to 156-9 in 10 overs.

Zaman Khan took three while Asif Afridi bagged two wickets for the Hawks.
